A new poll out shows that McCain leads Obama just slightly (within the margin of error, meaning they're effectively tied) among women asked which candidate has a “better understanding of women and what is important” to them. Politico story In July, the same poll showed Obama ahead on this question 52 to 18 percent. Is this really all due to Sarah Palin? Incredible.
What else could it be? McCain's positions tend to be anti-woman. McCain supports a constitutional amendment to ban abortion and opposes Roe v. Wade. "Will Pro-Choice Women Back McCain?" Time, June 23, 2008 He opposes legislation to ensure equal pay for women and has supported efforts to limit contraceptives. McCain: Not What Women Want, thinkprogress.org, June 11, 2008
Once again, I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe.

Well, I think after the last debate, any pro-choice woman would be terrified to vote for McCain. I haven't seen any polls out on that yet, but after he smirked and made air quotes about the "health" of the mother being some kind of liberal code word for the "pro-abortion" folks - immediately after Obama said that no one is pro-abortion - I'm pretty sure he lost any pro-choice fence-sitters.
